Air Jordan 1
AIR JORDAN 1, THE ICONIC SILHOUETTE OF THE JORDAN BRAND
THE AIR JORDAN 1, A MODEL WITH A STRONG HISTORY
The Air Jordan 1 High…Perhaps the most iconic silhouette in history (with the exception of the Air Force 1).
A true symbol of hip-hop and sports culture, the story of the iconic shoe of Michael Jordan matched only by its popularity. Popular with both amateurs and neophytes, the Air Jordan 1 is simply what we call a “ must-have ". And its story does not end there: Jordan Brand offers its legendary pair in two versions which are today enjoying thunderous success: the Air Jordan 1 Mid and the Air Jordan 1 Low ! Wearable with any style of clothing, both skirts and dresses on the women's side or slim and wide pants on the men's side, the Air Jordan 1 has been regularly declined over the years. A classic with many lives, from the store Union Los Angeles to Travis Scott, many cultural actors sneakers had the right to have a version bearing their image! These shoes have captured the hearts of all generations through iconic collections and collaborations. Intended for parquet floors NBA, the Air Jordan were quickly able to seize the codes of “streetculture” to become a real fashion phenomenon. We find ever more striking reinterpretations of the retro sneaker from Nike.
A B-BALL SNEAKER AHEAD OF ITS TIME
The sneaker originated in basketball courts. Created in 1985 by Peter Moore, very famous designer also known for being the creator of the Equipment range from Adidas, this pair consists of an architecture and a design close to the Air Force 1. It is also the very first pair to have been marketed by the brand Air Jordan, co-created by Michael Jordan and Nike. Still far from the logo Jumpman, we find on the period version the famous winged ball more commonly called "Jordan Wings" which served as its signature. In terms of performance, the technology Air of Nike has been equipping the sole since 1985 to obtain maximum comfort and support as well as reinforced protection at the ankle level — a design high on the ankle designed for basketball lessons. Available in 3 colorways, white, white and red, black and red, this pair appeared like a UFO with its leather upper and its never-before-seen look at the time.
For the record, the first red and black version named Bred of this silhouette was not authorized on the courts by the NBA. This did not respect the dress code of the championship. Number 23 therefore received a fine of $5,000 for each appearance with the Air Jordan 1 feet on the ground. Nike paid each of the fines and used the controversy to promote the pair. What is less known is that MJ took some time before accepting this version of his signature sneaker: he found that the chosen colors evoked those of the Devil... Leaving this bad first impression behind him, it is with the Air Jordan 1 that “His Airness” won the title of Rookie of the year, participated in his first Slam Dunk contest and gave his team one of the best seasons in its history!
AIR JORDAN 1 HIGH, MID, LOW : THREE CULT CHANGES

At the same time, several sneakers in different colors will be revealed by Nike : the Royal Blue and its royal blue, Shadow and its shaded gray, the UNC and the Natural Grey which will see an exclusive reissue in 2021. Although these colors were not worn on the field, they will experience dazzling success thanks to various advertising campaigns and will establish themselves as real must-haves of culture sneakers. A Metallic Pack will be revealed subsequently and will introduce the Air Jordan 1 Low to the general public. In 2020, the Metallic collection will be included on the Air Jordan 4 from 1989. It would be necessary to wait until the beginning of the 2000s to see the editions appear Retro who will reintroduce colorways OG in a completely new shape, the Air Jordan 1 Mid. It will very quickly be re-appropriated by women and young audiences more focused on fashion than sportswear and will allow Jordan Brand to rejuvenate its audience sneakers.
THE AIR JORDAN 1 AND ITS COLLABORATIONS
From the end of the 2000s, the Jumpman brand collaborates with several brands and cultural entities. The first of them is none other than Levi's in 2008. 10 years later, the giant of denim reveals to us the Air Jordan 4 Levi's which will be very popular with collectors. In 2014, the hype movement arrived. Hiroshi Fujiwara, creator of the label Fragment Design, reveals to us the Air Jordan which will revolutionize the world of sneakers forever. Taking up the color block of the Black Toe, the Japanese artist will replace the red heel tab with an electric blue which will be the label's signature. The high top then recognized unprecedented popularity and will be seen on the feet of the most influential people in culture such as Kanye West. But he's the latter's best friend, Virgil Abloh, which will really change the situation with the Air Jordan 1 High Off-White Chicago released in 2017 within the collection The Ten. Thanks to these multiple collaborations, the Air Jordan 1 continues to renew itself and succeeds in pleasing people outside the movement Jordan.
