JORDAN 2: THE RETURN TO THE SNEAKER SCENE
Released in 1986, the Air Jordan 2 came to widen the Jordan catalogue as the second signature shoe of Michael Jordan after the legendary Air Jordan 1. When it was created, the AJ2 was meant to be a luxurybasketball pair, combining performance and elegance. It was in that spirit that it was made in Italy. That Italian manufacture gave the model a premium build, letting it be worn on court as much as with a suit, thanks to its restraint and its absence of branding. It was notably with the Air Jordan 2 on his feet that Michael Jordan recorded his best points average over a season, with 37.1 points.
In 2022, the Air Jordan 2 returned to the front of the stage and was placed at the centre of collaborations. Off-White, Maison Château Rouge, Nina Chanel Abney or UNION LA and À ma manière: all these names have one thing in common. They have all worked on the Air Jordan 2 with Jordan Brand. But before giving rise to several versions born of collaborations, the Air Jordan 2 was first released in one of the most pared-back colourways. It appeared with a white leather base matched with a few touches of red and black, a nod to the NBA franchise of the Chicago Bulls that Michael Jordan played for.

WHAT SETS IT APART FROM THE OTHER AIR JORDAN?
Revolutionary through its manufacture in Italy in premium leather, but also by going over the symbolic mark of $100for the first time, the Air Jordan 2 has one important difference from the other models of the range. Unlike the others, such as its legendary forerunner the Air Jordan 1 or, later, the Air Jordan 1 Mid, the Jordan 2 was a commercial failure. It was quickly shunned by everyone, and it was even after the Jordan 2 that Nike called on a new designer, who had the heavy task of reconciling Michael Jordan and Nike. That is how the legendary Tinker Hatfield came in.
For his first design, the inventor of the Air Max 1 carried out his mission. He then imagined the Air Jordan 3. He said goodbye to the Swoosh and hello to the Jumpman, he shortened the upper, but also brought lightness and comfort. With this silhouette, Michael Jordan finished top scorer of the season for a second time, but also best defender and MVP , on top of winning the dunk contest a second time. The legend was under way. A year later, Hatfield designed the Air Jordan 4 and cemented that relationship with Michael Jordan. Well established, Hatfield then carried on his efforts to offer a unique model every year to “His Airness”, and it was in 1995 that he created the Grail in MJ's eyes, the Air Jordan 11.
