Air Jordan 11
AIR JORDAN 11: ITS STORY
During the 1995-1996 NBA season, MJ took back control of his career and his collaboration with the Swoosh brand. This gave birth to a legendary silhouette that marked its era and sparked a clear shift in the design of Air Jordan and sneakers in general, thanks to the genius of Tinker Hatfield. Its patent leather is completely avant-garde for the time, and it was the first time such a thing was done on a pair of sneakers. You also find the icy translucent outsole, which had disappeared since the Jordan VI. As usual, Michael Jordan wanted something completely new, combining style and performance. Tinker, for his part, drew inspiration from a convertible car—hence the patent leather—to evoke a metallic car paint job. And, as a twist, he was also inspired by a lawnmower to design the Air Jordan X. The pair also features a carbon fiber plate to reinforce durability and lightness at the arch on the inner part of the foot.
After his return in 1995, Michael Jordan needed to get back into the game. With the AJ11, you could say he was back in shape: 72 wins and 10 losses (NBA regular season record), including the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award and top scorer. The Bulls won the NBA championship for the fourth time on June 16, 1996, against the Seattle Supersonics. As it was Father's Day and Michael Jordan was suffering from not having his father by his side for this event, he broke down in tears in the locker room after the game.
THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THIS SNEAKERS NIKE
JORDAN 11 RETRO
As with the Air Jordan 1, the 11 has seen several reissues faithful to the original colorways from 1995. Michael Jordan wore the Air Jordan 11 Concord for the first time on May 7, 1995, against the Orlando Magic led by Shaquille O'Neal. When he returned to the NBA, Michael Jordan initially wore the number 45, so on the first Concord, still a PE, the number 45 appeared on the heel. When the first 11 Concord was released in November 1995, things went back to normal and Magic Mike reclaimed his number 23 along with his superpowers. This pair was successful, but sales were not exceptional. In February 1997, at the highly anticipated release of the film Space Jam , the AJ11 is well represented in an all-new black version. In fact, it was after the movie that the Concord really gained popularity, with its first reissue in 2000, accompanied by the Air Jordan 11 Space Jam. It was at this time that the Jordan 11 became a cult pair for sneakers fans. At its third reissue in 2011, after a “Defining Moments Pack” in 2006, some violent riots broke out on the release day of the 11 Concord. To finish on a more technical note, let's point out that a rather indecipherable part was embroidered in the middle of the tongue: it features the words “Jumpman/Jordan”, which must be read vertically. The 11 will have its Low version, which will be a big hit with women, just like the Air Jordan 1 Mid, a more compact version of the Air Jordan 1 High.
JORDAN 11 LOW
Over the years, Jordan Brand has tended to break away from the Beaverton equipment supplier by offering more and more lifestyle products aimed at diversifying MJ's label and providing a variety of products to complement retro editions like the Air Jordan 3. To achieve this, the sportswear giant decided to rework its original models into Low versions. The Air Jordan 6 Low was the first to be released. Its lightweight structure and trendy look were a huge hit, especially in small sizes. Some time later, it was the Air Jordan 11 Low that was introduced to the public in 2015 to mark the 20th anniversary of the silhouette created by Tinker Hatfield, with the original Bred colorway paying tribute to the legendary 1995-1996 season of Michael Jordan at Nike. An IE version would be released. It is characterized by a mesh and tumbled leather upper that stands out from the traditional patent leather and designed to be more comfortable with a more lifestyle-oriented spirit than retro models.
