GOLDFIELD & BANKS, THE NICHE PERFUMERY THAT GAVE A SMELL TO AUSTRALIA
DIMITRI WEBER FOUNDED GOLDFIELD & BANKS IN SYDNEY IN 2016
The name already says the program. Banks for Joseph Banks, the botanist who accompanied Cook in 1770 and brought back to Europe the first Australian plants ever described; Goldfield for the gold fields which made the country's fortune. Between the two, an idea that no one had had:Australia, one of the richest and most isolated flora in the world, had no luxury perfume house.
Dimitri Weber, Franco-Belgian trained in the European perfume industry, settled there and founded Goldfield & Banks at Sydney in 2016. The principle has not changed since: each creation is built around a native Australian ingredient — coastal moss, sandalwood, blue cypress, wood agar from Queensland — composed with French perfumers, in high concentration, with traceability claimed on each material.
PACIFIC ROCK MOSS, THE FIRST PERFUME TO GO VIRAL
The house could have remained an Australian curiosity. It was Pacific Rock Moss who got her out. Launched in 2016 and composed with François Merle-Baudoin and Carine Certain Boin, this saline aquatic – Pacific rock moss, cedar, sea spray – was taken by YouTube two years later, to the point that Weber describes it as the first perfume to create a buzz on the Internet. It remains the house's bestseller and the safest entry point.
He opened the Native Collection, today more than ten eau de parfum. Pacific Rock Flower, composed in 2024 with Grassoise Emilie Bouge, is the floral counterpart — tea tree flower, salt, coconut. Sunset Hour captures the peach and amber of a summer evening, Ingenious Ginger makes ginger sparkle.
SILKY WOODS, ROSE MAGNITUDE, TALES OF AMBER: THE BOTANICAL SERIES
The Botanical Series is the upper level, recognizable by its lacquered bottles enhanced with 24-carat gold. Silky Woods inaugurated it in 2021: an Australian oud from Queensland made silky by vanilla, saffron, suede and tobacco — oud for those who find oud too brutal. Rose Magnitude answers on the floral side. Tales of Amber, released in 2025 in a blue bottle cobalt, is a 30% perfume extract composed with Suzy Le Helley : New Zealand ambergris, wood agar, orange blossom, iris and cinnamon. The densest, and most wintry of the seven.
