DomRebel
DOMREBEL, THE GRAPHIC STREETWEAR THAT COMES FROM A MONTREAL WORKSHOP
JUSTIN SVATINA AND DON NGUYEN FOUND DOMREBEL IN 2003, WITH 350 DOLLARS
Two twenty-one year old students, a basement Montreal, $350, and no fashion experience. Justin Svatina and Don Nguyen founded DomRebel in 2003 by printing a handful of t-shirts for themselves and their friends — the brand itself says it was born “while daydreaming about class.” Twenty years later, it is still self-financed, still owned by its two founders, sold in 31 countries, and its principle has not changed: do more with less.
What sets it apart is the workshop. DomRebel is as much an art studio as it is a brand: the illustrations are drawn by hand, the finishes — embroidery, rhinestones, patches — carried out by a team of artisans in Montreal. The graphic language comes from cartoons and assertive humor; the pieces have the weight and cut of luxury ready-to-wear. The mix appealed to Zayn Malik, Nick Jonas and a generation of content creators looking for a statement piece without a giant logo.
KNIT RENEGADE, THE KNIT THAT MAKES THE REPUTATION OF DOMREBEL
The intarsia knit is the specialty of the house. The Knit Renegade — in crewneck Greige or Charcoal, in zip hoodie Charcoal, in cardigan grey — knits the pattern directly into the fiber instead of printing it: the visuals are part of the garment, they do not crack not, do not fade. The Wiser Knit follows the same logic in gray. These are the most expensive pieces in the selection and those that best justify the price. Only one is enough per outfit, with plain straight pants and a low-top sneaker: the graphics do the job.
STAFF, TREATS, ARTS CLOTHING: T-SHIRTS AND FLEECE
The Staffline, in the colors Old Black and Greige, is the basis of the DomRebel wardrobe: a t-shirt, a hoodie pullover and a sweatshort cut from thick fleece, with the graphics of the SS26 season. The t-shirts Treats, Arts Vetement, Lil Dev and Luxury Sketch feature in-house illustrations in Faded Black and Old White — faded blacks and off-whites that give the pieces a air already-worn look. On the lower side, the Jeans Jerk Bootcut Faded Black brings the flared cut of the 2000s up to date; with the Staff Hoodie, it's the total 2000s look.
In our streetweardepartment, the brand occupies the place of illustrated casual luxury, alongside Hellstar for the strong visual universe andIce Cream for player graphics. Our sweatshirts and hoodies and our t-shirts bring together the DomRebel pieces with those of their neighbors.
