AIR JORDAN 3, AN INNOVATIVE AND REVOLUTIONARY MODEL
A STRONG HISTORY, AN ICONIC MODEL: AIR JORDAN 1
A genuine classic among lifestyle and basketballsilhouettes, the Air Jordan 1 has left its mark on fashion and sport, notably with the very popular Air Jordan 1 Mid. Over the years it has become a must-have that sends fans wild at every release. This sneaker came about after the release of the Dunk High. Taking his cue from that model, Peter Moorereworked the pair for playing basketball and to let Michael Jordan shine on the courts of the NBA. By bringing in Air technology, it would completely change basketball silhouettes and push the Converse Chuck Taylor into the background. Fitting perfectly with any outfit, the Air Jordan 1 has gradually become the lifestyle sneaker to own in your wardrobe. Driven by iconic collaborations such as the one with the famous label Off-White or with the Houston rapper Travis Scott, the Air Jordan 1 High has taken the Michael Jordan brand into another dimension. Note that a low version also exists with the mythical Air Jordan 1 Low . But in a drive to innovate and to keep its ambassador, the American firm would offer new, more imposing and technical models such as the Air Jordan 4, the Air Jordan 5 or the emblematic Air Jordan 11. AIR JORDAN 3, THE REVIVAL OF JORDAN BRAND
The favourite model of Michael Jordan, the silhouette of the Air Jordan 3 is the very first designed by the legendary designer Tinker Hatfield in 1988. Creator among others of the Air Max 1, he worked closely with the player wearing number 23 on the design of this Jordan and of all those that followed. Universally recognised as a jewel of technology and performance, the Air Jordan 3 is among the most emblematic Jordans. It came out just after a previous version that met with a decidedly mixed reception. It was following the release of the Air Jordan 3 that the brand established itself as one of the great names in sports equipment. It is in fact since the release of this model that the Jordan logo officially became that of the Jumpman, replacing the winged ball. Showing Michael Jordan mid-dunk, the new signature is taken directly from a photograph shot during a session with “his Airness” in action. It would be taken up on the tongue of the Air Jordan 5 and on the lace locks of the Air Jordan 6 .
AIR JORDAN 3: A SNEAKER WITH A UNIQUE DESIGN
In terms of look and design, the pair carries the air bubble specific to Nike Air technology in the sole. The “Elephant Print”, a motif recalling elephant skin, is present at the back of the shoe and on the toe reinforcement. Finally, the upper of the Air Jordan 3 is made of box leather and the sole of various polyurethane components, giving it suppleness and durability over the years. The silhouette also stands apart through a slimmer design than the Air Jordan 4 . It was with the Air Jordan 3 on his feet that Michael Jordan had one of his best seasons and took the MVP title, best player in the league, for the first time in the NBA. He also took a mythical win over Dominique Wilkins in the dunk contest. A win still credited today to the incredible performance of the model created by Hatfield. Today available in many versions, the Air Jordan 3 is one of the most emblematic silhouettes in the history of the brand and of the trainer in general. An essential model, full of history, a must-have for sneaker enthusiasts and aficionados.
AIR JORDAN 3: UNIQUE COLLABORATIONS
Nike relies on collaborations and colourways that are each more effective than the last. Among them we can mention the magnificent Air Jordan 3 Quai 54 in collaboration with the Parisian event. A street basketball competition recognised worldwide, this collaboration carries the colour codes of the competition. Every year a silhouette is revisited, and it was during the 14th edition that we saw this model, a real nod to basketball and to street culture. Nike also collaborates with famous singers and rappers, as with DJ Khaled. We thus find 2 magnificent Air Jordan 3s in the colourways Father of Asahd and Grateful, with the American producer showing us his intense love for the brand of Michael Jordan. Genuine collector's pieces, these two sneakers now change hands at unimaginable prices. A long-standing partner, the Japanese concept store Atmos offered us a pack made up of its famous Air Max 1 Elephant Print and a very successful Nike Air Jordan 3. Released in March 2017, this very limited collaboration got people talking. The Nike Air Jordan 3 has thus managed to step away from the courts to walk the streets of the whole world.
AIR JORDAN 3 RETRO: THE HYPE OF OLD SCHOOL SNEAKERS
Several questions come up about the differences between the Retro versions and the other editions of the Air Jordan 3. The main difference lies in the design of the trainer: the Retro iterations take up the same shape as when these pairs first appeared on Michael Jordan's feet. The Air Jordan 3 Retro Racer Blue is the perfect example. Note that in 2022, the retail price of the Air Jordan 3 went from €160 to €180, which would translate into a slight rise in the resale price on the most eagerly awaited Air Jordan 3 colourways. No change is expected on sizing, which stays the same as before: take your usual size.
