NEW BALANCE 740: AN EMBLEMATIC MODEL OF THE 80s
Founded in 1906 in Boston by William J. Riley, New Balance has established itself as a worldwide benchmark thanks to its expertise in the comfort, the stability and the build quality of its sneakers. Specialising at first in orthopaedic insoles, the brand turned in the 60s towards road running and quickly won the trust of athletes thanks to its innovative models. In the 80s, New Balance chose to widen its offer and turned towards basketball, and it is in that context that the New Balance 740 appeared, a silhouette that is a cult piece today.
NEW BALANCE 740: THE HERITAGE OF BASKETBALL
Launched at the start of the 80s, the New Balance 740 was built to answer the needs of professional basketball players, unlike a silhouette such as the 204L , which draws rather on running silhouettes. With its premium leather, its padded collar and its midsole, it combines support, stability and comfort, features that are essential on the court. It is above all the arrival of the legendary James Worthy, a player for the Los Angeles Lakers, that pushed the model to the front of the stage. He was the first NBA player to sign a sponsorship contract with New Balanceand became the iconic ambassador of the 740, which would be nicknamed the “Worthy Express”.
