Founded in 1906 in Boston by William J. Riley, New Balance has established itself as a global reference thanks to its expertise in comfort, stability, and manufacturing quality of its sneakers. Initially specialized in orthopedic insoles, the brand shifted towards running in the 60s and quickly gained the trust of athletes thanks to its innovative models. Launched in the early 80s, the New Balance 740 was designed to meet the needs of professional basketball players, unlike a silhouette like the 204L which is more inspired by running silhouettes. Above all, it was the arrival of the legendary James Worthy, player for the Los Angeles Lakers, that brought the model to the forefront. The first NBA player to sign a sponsorship contract with New Balance. He became the iconic ambassador of the 740, which would be nicknamed the “Worthy Express”.
