Travis Scott Cactus Jack
TRAVIS SCOTT NIKE, THE CACTUS JACK COLLAB
THE STORY OF THE RAPPER TRAVIS SCOTT
Travis Scott was born in 1992 in Houston, the largest city in Texas in the United States. With a grandfather who composed jazz and a father who was a musician, young Travis developed a passion for music very early. He learned drums and piano before turning to electronic music. From Björk to the Sex Pistols, he quickly opened up to varied influences. It was at 16 that Travis started rapping, following in the footsteps of his idols Kid Cudi and Kanye West. After that, Jacques Webster, to use his real name, took the stage name Travis Scott in reference to his favourite uncle. After two years of study, he left university to devote himself entirely to his passion. A risky bet that would pay off, since in 2012 he was discovered by the rapper T.I., who launched his career.
THE PATH OF CACTUS JACK: FROM THE SPARK TO LA FLAME
As a young artist, Travis Scott quickly came out of the shadows thanks to T.I. and his label. After a few first tracks, the young Texan was contacted by a certain Kanye West. Becoming his mentor, Yeezus helped him produce his first EP “Owl Pharaoh” in 2013. He then released another mixtape in 2014, “Days Before Rodeo”. Thanks to these mixtapes, media and insiders discovered this new talent, already shaping up as one of the future stars of urban music. This time it was under the label “GOOD MUSIC” of the Chicago rapper, producer and designer that Travis released his first studio album in 2015: “Rodeo”.
With his floating, energetic style, mixing electronic influences, gimmicks and catchy melodies, his album very quickly met with critical and commercial success. Travis Scott placed himself as one of the headliners of music and was given the status of new leader of the rap movement. Fond of playing with the codes, the artist took on many nicknames over his career. The best known is “La Flame”, taken from an American urban expression suggesting an energetic and uncontrollable mood. “Cactus Jack” is also often used by the rapper. A direct reference to his first name Jacques, it is also a nod to his Texan roots and to the villain of Hal Needham's parody western released in 1979.
In 2016, the Houston artist unveiled his second album “Birds in The Trap Sing McKnight”, which would confirm his position as prince of trap. Several solo and collaborative projects followed, including one with Quavo of the group Migos. But it was in 2018 that “La Flame” fully came into his own and took the crown as the new king of rap. After a powerful media and marketing campaign, his eagerly awaited third album “ASTROWORLD” was released, writing his name into the culture for good.
TRAVIS SCOTT X NIKE: BEYOND US RAP
A fashion lover, Travis Scott stands out beyond music through his style and his taste for beautiful pieces. A trendsetter, the young man is a genuine devotee of luxury and of luxury fashion. He carried out his first collaboration in 2017 with the brand Helmut Lang. From Louis Vuitton to the many streetwearbrands, “La Flame” sits at the heart of the trend, cultivating his own visual identity. He also models for many brands.
A sneaker enthusiast, he was one of the first to wear a pair of Yeezy when their release was announced. He collaborated for the very first time with Nike on a pair of Air Force 1 in 2017, which he reissued in a Sail version in 2018, preceding the famous Jordan 1.
After the AF1, Travis Scott reworked other notable models from the Nike catalogue: the Air Max 1, the Air Trainer 1, the Air Max 270 and the Dunk Low.
NIKE TRAVIS SCOTT JORDAN
Also a big fan of the brand Air Jordan, he reworked the Air Jordan Trunner LX model in his own image. The few copies of this pair were meant exclusively for his personal use and never reached the shops.
Today one of the most sought-after pairs on the market, he moved on to other models. He mainly reworks silhouettes from the brand with the Jumpman:
– In 2018, the two parties revisited the Air Jordan 4. The AJ4 “Cactus Jack” and its electric blue upper. The pair was also released in several other “Friends and Family” versions: Purple, Grey and Nike Air.
– In 2019, the Air Jordan 1 Travis Scott “Cactus Jack” with its taupe base and its reversed swoosh. Teased on social media, the model came out in small numbers on the evening of the Grammy ceremony in February. It was made public a few weeks later, at the same time as a streetwear collection.
Since these two emblematic models, the American rapper and the brand with the Swoosh have multiplied the collaborations, notably on the Air Jordan 1 and the Jordan 6. The AJ1 has been reimagined in many versions such as the Air Jordan 1 Low OG Travis Scott Olive, the Air Jordan 1 Low OG Travis Scott Reverse Mocha or the darker Air Jordan 1 Low OG Travis Scott Black Phantom. The singer of “Goosebumps” has also revisited the AJ1 Low in a version designed especially for golf. In June 2024, the Air Jordan 1 Low OG Travis Scott Golf Neutral Olive thus came to light. A variety of colourways to be found in our special selection Air Jordan 1 Low Travis Scott .
Recently, and after many reworked versions of emblematic Nike models, Jordan and Travis Scott unveiled during 2024 the first signature model of the Houston artist, the Jumpman Jack.
The flagship models: the AJ1 Low Medium Olive, Shy Pink and Tropical Pink
Even though he has designed his first silhouette, Travis Scott keeps reinventing the iconic Air Jordan models. After an already cult Medium Olive edition of the AJ1 Low, an Air Jordan 1 Low Shy Pink and an Air Jordan 1 Low OG Tropical Pink in pink tones came out in May 2026, to the great delight of Travis fans. A marked switch in colourways, with bolder shades than the artist's usual tones.
The future of the Houston prodigy, who has been named ambassador of the arts and of education, looks bright. There is no doubt that Travis Scott, aka Cactus Jack , is set to enter the pantheon of artists who have left an indelible mark on the history of music and fashion.
