AIR JORDAN 1 HIGH, THE EDITION THAT MARKED ITS ERA
THE AIR JORDAN 1 HIGH, A MODEL WITH A STRONG HISTORY
The Air Jordan 1 Retro High… Perhaps the most emblematic silhouette in history (with the exception of the Air Force 1). The Air Jordan 1 is the first pair in the line of models of Michael Jordan, created in 1985 by Peter Moore. The model was first meant for the courts of the NBA but, as it did not meet the league's dress code, it was not allowed on pain of a $5,000 fine. The many collaborations with Marvel, Virgil Abloh, Travis Scott and more recently Diorhave let the pair reach a new audience. Backed by newcomers and long-standing enthusiasts alike, the Air Jordan 1 has quite simply become what you would call a “best-seller” or a “must-have”… Timeless and iconic, this silhouette has won the hearts of every generation over time, and today sees a future full of light…
It is worth noting that the legendary Air Jordan is also available in two other versions: the Air Jordan 1 Mid, a real success of 2020 and 2021, followed by the Air Jordan 1 Low .
THE AIR JORDAN 1 HIGH: ICONIC EDITIONS
The abundant variety of the Air Jordan 1 High lies above all in its prestigious collaborations. So J Balvin teamed up with Jordan Brand to create a pair full of colour, in tie-dye form. The history of the Air Jordan 1 High begins in 1985 with the Air Jordan 1 Chicago OG, worn by Michael Jordan, who at first sight did not like the colours of the pair: “they make me think of the devil”. He finally came round to it after long negotiations, and a multitude of colourways with different stories followed. The Air Jordan 1 High OG UNC to Chicago , which draws on the sporting path of Michael Jordan , brings together two colours, echoes of two defining periods of his life. The edition Air Jordan 1 High Fearless is another tribute to the basketball player's career: the blue stands for the Tar Heels team and the red for that of the Chicago Bulls. Finally, the Air Jordan 1 High Defiant were originally aimed at basketball players, with for example the Air Jordan 1 High Retro OG Defiant Laker Nike SB Lakers. These colourways therefore mark the history of the model and help create a real identity for the collection. But that is not the only driver of the success of the Air Jordan 1 High. The collaborations too anchor the model a little more each time in the history of the sneaker.
Other silhouettes such as the Air Jordan 3 or one of the biggest revelations of recent years, the Air Jordan 4, would in turn become silhouettes marked by iconic collaborations.
PRESTIGE COLLABORATIONS
Nike is capable of offering us luxury models, as with its unprecedented collaboration with Dior. For the 35 years of the Air Jordan at Nike and the very first launch of the collection Dior Homme in the United States, the two brands joined forces to make the sneaker of our dreams : the Air Dior, which revisits the flagship model of the Air Jordan 1 High. Presented in Miami in December, the Air Dior stands as a unique model, between luxury and streetwear.
Travis Scott and Nike joined up once more to make an original, retro trainer. After the Air Jordan 4 Cactus Jack, it was the turn of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High Travis Scott. The American rapper hits hard with this sneaker in brown and white leather. A reversed swoosh and a small pocket at the back of the shoe, enough to surprise Air Jordan fans once again.
These collaborations therefore help make this model accessible to wider audiences, coming from different backgrounds. It is a way of making the model even more prestigious, and of showcasing the relentless work of the brands and artists through a unique creation.
