Yeezy Foam RNNR
ADIDAS FOAM RUNNER: A FLUID AND FUTURISTIC DESIGN
In November 2019, Kanye West was in the middle of promoting his album Jesus Is King. To mark the moment, Ye was the surprise guest of Travis Scott at his Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas. During his performance of Follow God, Yeezy unveiled for the first time its Foam RNNR on his feet. Imagined in collaboration with the illustrious footwear designer Steven Smith, this new forward-thinking silhouette would leave its mark, through its futuristic shape, which slightly takes up the form of the Yeezy 350 and Yeezy 380 , but also thanks to its build in foam based on recycled algae grown on the 4,000-acre ranch bought by Mr West. Located in Wyoming, that ranch would become the new head office of Yeezy but would also be the place where the Foams are made. The aim, in the long term, is for all of Ye's designs to be made in the United States, to reduce the environmental impact of production in Asia and create jobs for local people. After the Yeezy 500 and the Yeezy 700, the Foams embody the limitless creativity of the Chicago artist and illustrate the ecosystem that Kanye is building step by step, between music, fashion and design. It would stir many reactions, positive or negative, like most Adidas Yeezy designs, but would also be behind the new trend for mules and clogs, with the return of Crocs and of single-piece silhouettes (notably with the Yeezy Slides).
YEEZY FOAM RUNNER AND ITS COLOURWAYS
It all starts with the colourway Ararat for men and women. It is the first edition to be sold, in 2020. With its clean look, it would meet with real success and be much sought after by sneakerheads worldwide. Then came the colourway Sand, with its cream tones closely resembling the OG. At the same time, Adidas and Yeezy presented the colourway Mineral Blue in a midnight blue shade and the MX Clay Cream , which carried a gradient of colours with a marbled effect. That last one would be followed by other “mixed” versions with the MX Moon Gray, with its cream grey details, the MX Sand Grey with its bluish patches and finally the MX Carbon , which carried a black base with pink and yellow patches. But the Foams would mainly be admired and sought after for their solid colourways, like the Vermillion. Released in October 2021, it echoed the Nike Air Yeezy 2 Red October of 2014, the last model made with Nike by Kanye West. But as with the Yeezy QNTM, Ye's creative teams favoured more restrained colourways such as the Sulfur and its yellow reflections, the Ochre , which sits between beige and brown, the Mist and finally the Stone Sage. The Foam Runner go with any outfit. Favour trousers with slightly oversized cuts, such as denim, cargo or sweatpants.
