YEEZY, THE STORY OF THE KANYE WEST x ADIDAS PARTNERSHIP
KANYE WEST'S REMARKABLE JOURNEY
Always eager to create products under his own name, Kanye West began his ascent by launching the brand Pastelle. The American artist then collaborated with several streetwear brands such as Bape and Nike.
Always avant-garde and visionary, Ye also teamed up with Louis Vuitton for a series of sneakers. Dissatisfied and frustrated by his various collaborations, it was in 2015 that he crossed paths with the sportswear giant Adidas, ready to offer him the creation of a joint entity in the style of Nike and Jordan. This meeting gave birth to the brand Yeezy, founded alongside Virgil Abloh, who would go on to launch his own brand Off-White and become artistic director of the house Louis Vuitton from 2018 to 2021, until his unfortunate passing from cancer at the end of November.
ADIDAS x YEEZY, ICONIC MODELS
The Yeezy 750 then became the first piece in the Yeezy catalog. Strongly resembling the Nike Air Yeezy II, a model from his previous partnership with Nike, it was released in an extremely limited edition, generated major buzz, and quickly sent crowds into a frenzy. Building on this initial success, Kanye West followed up and unveiled the model that would become the most sought-after and popular of his entire career as a footwear designer, the Yeezy Boost 350. With its futuristic design, aerodynamic design, and its many colorways ranging from the most understated to the boldest, this pair quickly established itself as a must-have. quickly became one of the trendiest silhouettes of recent years.
It has played a major role in popularizing and democratizing the limited edition sneakers system that we know today, with carefully selected retailers as well as a raffle system to win the right to purchase. Other more avant-garde models, ranging from the Yeezy Slide at Yeezy Foam RNNR will further strengthen Ye's pioneering position in sneakers culture.
THE BOOST TECHNOLOGY AND PRIMEKNIT
Kanye West places a great deal of importance on the finishes and materials used in the design of his silhouettes. Playing with suede, mesh, and even 3M reflective fabrics, he doesn't hesitate to mix materials together. But what truly represents and symbolizes the flagship model of the Yeezy is the technology that comes with the 350. The Adidas Boost technology was born from the collaboration between the Adidas Innovation Team and chemists from the BASF group. They managed to revolutionize the sneaker and running market with a midsole made up of mini-particles that absorb impact while redistributing energy with each step. The Yeezy thus becomes the ambassador for Boost, expanding its influence worldwide.
Of course, the price has been adjusted to match this technical level. For the Yeezy 350 V2, which uses Boost technology, the retail price is set at €220, making it noticeably more expensive than a sneaker like the Air Jordan 1. For the Yeezy 700, retail prices range from €240 to €300.
But what makes this iconic shoe so comfortable is also its Primeknit fabric. It is characterized by a very flexible and highly durable knit that forms a seamless sock-like fit. Once again, this technology, originally designed for running, joins forces with the influence of Yeezy to bring Adidas Lifestyle silhouettes back into the spotlight. We can especially see the Adiprene technology, offering great comfort, on the sole of the Yeezy 700 V3 or even the Yeezy 500. Also worth noting is the change in materials used on the Yeezy Slide with an EVA foam that guarantees unmatched comfort. For a sneaker that's perfect for both men and women, comfortable and with true innovation in its design, Yeezy is the perfect choice.
