YEEZY 500, A SNEAKER WITH A UNIQUE SILHOUETTE
THE BUILDING OF A MYTH
Drawing on the dad shoe trend, Kanye West and Adidas released in 2017 the divisive silhouette of the Yeezy 500 .
A benchmark in the world of music, the artist of many talents moved into the fashion sector and lined up collaborations, each more popular than the last. He worked notably with brands such as Nike and Louis Vuitton. It was in 2015, after many disagreements with Nike , that Kanye West decided to create his own brand in partnership with Adidas: Yeezy.
The very young firm then launched several models in the year of its founding: the Yeezy Boost 750, the very first shoe, quickly followed by the Yeezy Boost 350 in versions 1 and 2, then the Yeezy 950. Over time, the designer established himself as one of the most influential figures in the fashion sector. With the pairs released in ultra-limited editions, demand stays constant and fans rush to wear the latest Yeezy silhouettes.
More recently, it has been the turn of futuristic silhouettes such as the Yeezy Boost 380 or slip-ons like the Yeezy Slide to blow up the sneaker market.
YEEZY 500: A SNEAKER WITH A DISRUPTIVE DESIGN
It is in that context that the Yeezy 500 model appeared. In 2017, the trend was for the chunky sneaker. Also called the dad shoe, that fashion is the one of the wide trainers and shoes of the 90s worn by American “dads”. Kanye West drew heavily on that wave to imagine the silhouettes of the Yeezy 700 and the 500, which would try to compete with Nike's flagship models. This new line of Yeezy 500 included the Blushcolourway, the very first release. Quickly drawing the curiosity of fans, the designer then decided to vary the model and unveiled the next colourways: Super Moon Yellow, Utility Black and more recently Salt.
Parting with the Boost sole that belongs to Adidas, this trainer is deliberately wider and takes on a more original look. Criticised at first because of its design, so different from the models then on the market, the Yeezy 500 is today one of the most popular shoes among sneaker fans, with colourways often marked by their restraint.
FITTED WITH AN ADIPRENE SOLE
Adiprene is a technology meant to improve the performance of athletes who run, a field already well occupied by Nike. This technology is set under the heel, to absorb the shocks generated by changes of footing and by the stride. This technology is often paired withAdiprene+ , which allows for greater stability and a certain explosiveness, particularly visible in basketball. So Kanye West and his label Yeezy stay true to their values by bringing a touch of comfort to their silhouettes. The use of this sole soared with the appearance of the basketball models born of collaborations, notably with the famous Portland point guard Damian Lillard or John Wall. More recently we have seen this sole built into the latest Yeezy 700 V3 , marking the renewal of the model. This technology, less costly than Boost, makes it possible to offer comfortable models at far gentler prices. You will have gathered that Yeezy does not hesitate to use the latest innovations to combine design and comfort in its models.
