ADIDAS, A BRAND WITH STRONG VALUES
ADIDAS: A SPORTS BRAND BUILT AROUND PERFORMANCE
Adidas is founded in 1949 in Germany by two brothers Adi and Rudolf Dassler. The company was first called “Dassler”, before later becoming Adidas. As a side note, Rudolf Dassler went on to set up his own company, known as Puma. Understanding what athletes need from their footwear was the founders' main driving force. Adidas started out making football boots and bags, which remain the company's flagship products. One of the first stars to wear the brand was Jesse Owens , who had won four gold medals at the Olympic Games of Berlin in 1936. Over the years, Adidas became increasingly present at the Olympic Games, and went on to become the brand sponsoring the Games in 2012. Known worldwide as thethree stripes mark, Adidas later went through a difficult spell, which it came out of by refreshing its image and widening its range of sneakers.
BEHIND ONE OF THE BIGGEST INNOVATIONS IN SNEAKERS: BOOST
Looking to innovate and take on the Air developed at Niketechnology, Adidas developed what would become one of the most popular midsoles around. Working with a specialist laboratory, the German brand created Boost. Far more advanced than the older EVAmidsole, the innovation was seen as a breakthrough in the brand's history. The technology is still in use today, on the Yeezy Boost, created by Kanye West. Adidas gradually tied its name to younger, popular movements such as hip-hop and began putting down roots in street culture. That was confirmed by the sweeping advertising campaignAdidas all Inrun by its fashion arm Adidas Originals and titledAll Originals represent”. In 2011. The first instalment of the campaign put the spotlight on stars such as Lionel Messi or the rapper B.O.B..
The Adidas Originals trefoil logo, known as the trefoil, has a story of its own. Used on every product until 1997, it has since stood for the brand's heritage. Replaced by the Performance logo, the Adidas Originals mark is now reserved for garments that reference the years 1940 to 1980.
INFLUENTIAL ADIDAS AMBASSADORS: KANYE WEST, PHARRELL WILLIAMS
Today, with its many collaborations, including those with Adidas x Bad Bunny, Kanye West for the brand Yeezy or Pharrell Williams for the NMD Human Race, the German brand ranks among the biggest names in streetwear and remains a go-to for every sneaker fan . The three-stripe brand and Kanye West have produced one of the most prolific partnerships of recent years, with more than a dozen models reworked by the American rapper, stylist and designer. It arrived out of nowhere and established itself as the benchmark for streetwearstyle. Adidas is also happy to venture into haute couture with world-famous ambassadors who pioneered the field. Worth noting is the collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto and his label Y3 , which reworks the German brand's technologies with all the restraint of the Japanese designer. Belgian designer Raf Simons also left his mark with a superb dad shoe, the Raf Simons Ozweego 2. Whether in haute couture, streetwear or rap, Adidas always manages to read the cultural codes of the sneaker and offer comfortable models with real lifestyle appeal.
