Versatile Paris
VERSATILE PARIS, THE ALCOHOL-FREE PERFUME EXTRACT
CORALIE FRÉBOURG FONDE VERSATILE PARIS IN FRONT TOP CHEF
The idea does not come from a laboratory but from a cooking show. Graduated from theÉcole Supérieure du Parfum in 2019, Coralie Frébourg watches Top Chef in full confinement when she decides not to join a multinational and start her own house. Versatile Paris is released in October 2021 with seven extracts, and a signature in three words: “small but powerful”.
Four years later, the brand is distributed in more than thirty countries and several hundred points of sale, from Galeries Lafayette to niche perfumeries, after a first fundraising in 2022. It works with the independent laboratory FLAIR and a handful of recognized noses — Elia Chiche, who also signs with Une Nuit Nomade, and Amélie Bourgeois, co-founder of FLAIR.
AN ALCOHOL-FREE PERFUME EXTRACT, IN A 15 ML ROLL-ON
The technical particularity explains the format. The juices are alcohol-free perfume extracts, mounted on a base of almond and wheat oils, which makes them non-photosensitizing and non-drying for the skin and hair. Consequence: a 15 ml roll-on is worn in the sun, slipped into a pocket and applied to the wrists, neck or ends without alcohol which evaporates. The spray of 30 ml, which arrived next, has the same concentration for those who prefer the classic gesture.
The house also boasts a rare transparency in perfumery: each creation names its main ingredient, tonka bean for Croissant Café, sandalwood for Gueule de Bois. Everything is vegan, gender neutral and made in France.
COFFEE CROISSANT, HANGOVER, RITAL DATE: PERFUMES INSPIRED BY THE TABLE
The subject is gourmet in the literal sense. Croissant Café recreates a Parisian breakfast — CO2 coffee, cappuccino, milk and caramel at the top, sesame and cedar at the heart, tonka, musk and vetiver at the base — and it is the house's best-seller. Rital Date pays homage to Italy with a unique accord of limoncello, pesto and grilled pistachio. Culot Thé infuses a tea with a woody-floral base, God Bless Cola assumes soda, Very Bad Rice rice pudding, Sea Sud & Sun sunscreen from a Mediterranean beach.
Gueule de Bois is the most “ normal” of the lot, and undoubtedly the most worn: an alcoholic oriental led by rum, warmed with cinnamon and pepper, placed on modern sandalwood. The one we choose when we want the humor of the name without taking olfactory risks.
WHERE IS VERSATILE PARIS IN NICHE PERFUMERY
Halfway between niche perfumery and skincare, and at €55 or €65 for bottle, it is the most accessible entry point in our selection. In the field of gourmet perfumes, she shares with Borntostandout this taste for names that provoke and accords that one does not expect. A practical tip, since the format lends itself to it: the roll-on is the best way to test a juice on your own skin before using a spray — an alcohol-free perfume reacts even more to pH than others.
