Kleman Padror
KLEMAN PADROR, THE DERBY WORKWEAR MADE IN FRANCE
LE PADROR, A SHOE CREATED IN THE 90S
The Padror was not designed for a store but for a station platform. Kleman designed it in the 90s to fit SNCFagents, under a first name now forgotten: Padre. Uniform specifications, therefore - standing, slippery floors and kilometers of corridors.
This was not a trial run. Since 1945, the Cléon Manufacture, which became Kleman in 1988, has equipped the trades of the French administration: the SNCF, customs, Air France, the army. The Padror derby was born from this logic, and this is precisely what gave it its second life in the contemporary workwear wardrobe.
HOW TO RECOGNIZE A PADROR DERBY BY KLEMAN
Two details signify the model, and they owe nothing to the style. Theserrated hem which runs along the upper and the fancy stitching at the back are the visual identity of the Padror — you can recognize the pair from three meters without seeing the logo.
The rest is professional specifications. Welded assembly, notched rubber sole meeting standard EN-20347, renowned for its anti-slip and anti-abrasion properties, 3 cm heel, calfskin and textile lining, leather insole. The cowhide leather comes from European tanneries certified Leather Working Group. Last detail, and it says it all about the house: the laces are woven ten kilometers from the workshop.
PADROR G VGT, B2, VV: AVAILABLE DECLINATIONS
The Padror can be read through its suffixes, which designate the material rather than the color. The Padror G VGT goes for the derby in grained leather, marked texture and firmer hold, available in black and brown. The Padror VV has a velvet crust, matter and more supple, here in chocolate. The Padror B2 and the Padror A complete the range on smooth leathers, from black to brown.
All share the same lug sole and construction. The choice therefore depends on the material and on the use: the grained one absorbs scratches better, the velvet requires a regular brush and waterproofing, the smooth leather waxes and develops a patina.
HOW TO WEAR THE PADROR TODAY
The platform derby has left l'uniforme to become a serious alternative to the sneaker, on the same terrain as the Dr Martens : a robust leather shoe which supports wide work pants without being formal. Its thick sole also calls for a pant bottom that sits there, not a hem that is too short.
The rest of the Kleman catalog extends the same logic with the Major, the Courrier, the Nomade or the Granite. Size wise, the Padror fits just right: take your usual size, the leather stretches slightly but the shape remains constant from one model to another.
