Diemme Cornaro
DIEMME CORNARO, THE HIKING SHOE GOING TO THE CITY
THE CORNARO, BORN IN THE AUTUMN-WINTER 2022 COLLECTION
The Cornaro is a recent arrival and a success fast. Diemme introduced it in its fall-winter 2022 collection, designed after a traditional low hiking shoe, and the model established itself in a few seasons as one of the pillars of the brand.
The origin explains the result. Diemme was born in 1992 in Onè di Fonte, in Veneto, at the foot of the Dolomites — a region that has been making mountain shoes for centuries and remains the world capital of the kind. All production still comes from this family factory, in limited series, each pair being assembled by hand by specialized workers.
WHAT DISTINGUISHES THE CORNARO BOOT FROM DIEMME
The construction is that of a real mountain shoe, lightened for the pavement. Low shank, metal hooks type D-rings inherited from alpine lacing, light notched rubber sole which ensures grip without the weight of a trekking sole, leather lining.
The suede is wax-treated and is weather-resistant, which places the Cornaro exactly where it is most useful: shoulder seasons, urban rain, easy weekend trails. A detail that few retailers mention: each pair comes with a second set of laces, one neutral and the other contrasting, enough to completely change the interpretation of the shoe in two minutes.
CORNARO SWEDEN OR CORNARO GOMMA: WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE
Two families share the range. The classic Cornaro plays on treated suede, in black as well as in bison brown, for a supple, matte silhouette that develops a patina quickly.
The Cornaro Gomma adds a rubber mudguard tone-on-tone which surrounds the bottom of the upper, steel hardware and, depending on the version, full-grain leather or nappa leather rather than suede. This is the more protective and structured reading of the two, available in black and cognac. If you're hesitant: suede for style, Gomma for winter and dirty journeys.
WHAT TO WEAR A DIEMME CORNARO
The boot supports wide pants without disappearing underneath, and that's its whole point compared to a more massive Timberland or a frankly technical Salomon . It can be found in the boots section but can be worn all day, including at the office with chinos.
The rest of the Diemme range offers the same alpine grammar with the Ampezzo, the Roccia or the Grappa Hiker. In terms of maintenance, waxed suede should be dry brushed and re-waterproofed twice per season — never hot water, which dissolves the wax and cancels the protection.
