A Nomad Night
A NOMAD NIGHT, THE NICHE PERFUMERY AS A TRAVEL NOTEBOOK
TWO ALUMNI OF UNIVERSAL MUSIC
The house does not come from Grasse but from a recording studio. Alexandra Cubizolles, artistic director, and Philippe Solas, marketing director, meet at Universal Music, brought together by music before being united by perfume. It is the desire for independence that pushes them to explore other areas.
Philippe Solas then trained at shiatsu, which deepens his taste for Asian traditions. His journey as an olfactory nomad begins with a very concrete frustration: his favorite perfume is discontinued, and he leaves to look elsewhere for rarer universes. For Alexandra Cubizolles, travel is a philosophy before being an argument. Both practice Ashtanga yoga and shiatsu, and claim this body-mind connection in their compositions.
WHY THE LABEL DOES NOT SAY “A NOMAD NIGHT”
The brand was born in 2012 under another name: One Night in Bali. The first perfume was released in 2013, and it is the multiplication of destinations which imposes the current name. A subtlety that still confuses buyers: each bottle bears the name of its brand on its label. collection — One Night in Bali, A Night in Oman, A Night in Montauk or Kerala — and not that of the house. See “A Night in Oman” on a niche perfume therefore does not mean that we have changed brands: it is a stopover in the same travel diary. A logic of territories that share Oman Luxury, another house in our selection to draw from the Arabian Peninsula.
SIX NOSES FOR TWENTY-TWO FRAGRANCES
Where many independents work with a single perfumer, the house calls on six: Serge de Oliveira, Karine Chevallier, Nathalie Feisthauer, Annick Menardo, Jerome di Marino and Elia Chiche. The name of Annick Ménardo carries weight: for an independent brand, obtaining her signature is a starry path. Jérôme di Marino composes Amber Khandjar, leathery oriental designed for desert nights. As for Nathalie Feisthauer, we also find her behind the bottles of Place de la Reverie, which makes it possible to follow the same nose from one house to another.
On the bottle side, Misfah Garden restores the freshness of an Omani oasis, Flower of Flowers the blossoms of Bali, Spicy Road the spice coast of South India, and Sugar Leather this sweet-cooked contrast which is the house signature. Alexandra Cubizolles insists on one point: a perfume needs time to adapt to the wearer, because each person's pH modifies it. Choosing a fragrance for the brand alone therefore makes no sense - hence the interest in 25 ml formats to test before committing. Wrists, neck, sometimes hair: that's where it comes into play. Also worth exploring on the side of Liquides Imaginaires andAtelier des Ors.
