Air Jordan 5
AIR JORDAN 5, WHEN THE BASKETBALL INSPIRES THE SNEAKER
THE AIR JORDAN 5, A MODEL WITH NUMEROUS INSPIRATIONS
Inspired by American fighter planes from World War II, the design from the legendary Air Jordan 5 of the famous Tinker Hatfield is true to the mindset of the greatest legend of the NBA: Michael Jordan. Designer Tinker Hatfield draws inspiration from the shark teeth that are recognizable on the front of those iconic planes. This element is easily spotted on the midsole of every edition, such as one of the very first OG colorways: the Air Jordan 5 Fire Red. The Air Jordan 5, an emblematic figure of the peak of Jordan's career, symbolizes his physical and mental dominance in the game. With a functional and technical aspect, the silhouette, which debuted in 1990, was initially released in three colorways: Fire Red, Metallic Silver and New Emerald.
Although often overshadowed by the success of the hugely popular Air Jordan 1 or the must-have Air Jordan 4, the Air Jordan 5 remains one of the greatest successes in the history of sneakers!
A SILHOUETTE DEFINED BY LEGENDARY COLORWAYS
If the first three OG colorways are already must-haves, the b-ball silhouette truly took a turn by drawing inspiration from the codes of sneakers culture. This is evident in the collaboration with the brand Virgil Abloh, which gave the silhouette unprecedented visibility. And the result speaks for itself: the Air Jordan 5 Retro Off-White Black and the Air Jordan 5 Retro Off-White Sail are among the best releases of 2020, marking the 30th anniversary of the silhouette. With a vintage vibe and material and colors, this collaboration is already considered a classic from the Off-White x Jordan partnership.
Other releases such as the Air Jordan 5 Retro What The stand out for their unprecedented originality, mixing the most iconic colorways of the Air Jordan 5: Tokyo, Raging Bull, Quai 54...
THE BEGINNING OF AN ICON?
If there’s one thing we know, it’s that the fifth signature shoe of "His Airness" from 1990 marks the beginning of a new era on the basketball scene. During the 1990-1991 season, Michael Jordan won the first NBA title for the Chicago Bulls franchise and delivered performances that will remain etched in history. Marked by collaborations with Supreme and also Off-White, the Air Jordan 5 is today one of the most storied b-ball silhouettes. A legacy that continues to inspire the present, especially with the Air Jordan 5 Retro Quai 54 which highlights one of the most important events in basketball culture.
