Air Jordan 4
AIR JORDAN 4, A CLASSIC SIGNED JORDAN BRAND
THE AIR JORDAN 4, AN ICONIC MODEL
It is one of the Air Jordan most prized by collectors and sneaker fans, alongside the legendary Air Jordan 1. This model has taken on the status of an unavoidable over the years, to the point of becoming a benchmark of the genre. Unlike the first model of the range, it has no higher or lower version, as you can see with the Air Jordan 1 Mid and its big sister, the Air Jordan 1 High.
After the clear critical and commercial success of the silhouette of the Air Jordan 3, the brand with the Jumpman looked for a new hit. Taking up the same team behind the small revolution that was the AJ3, Tinker Hatfield and Nike/Jordan imagined in 1989 the model of the Air Jordan 4, or Air Jordan IV. The pair was designed directly from the needs of Michael Jordan on court. At the height of his career, the “ G.O.A.T.” wanted to go further still. The aerodynamic design of the AJ4 and its build are the fruit of the performance needs of “His Airness”. Flexibility, breathability, freedom of movement and comfort are the watchwords of Hatfield's creative intent.
And the silhouette remains at the heart of sneaker trends, with the reissue of retro models such as the Air Jordan 4 Military Blue or the Air Jordan 4 Bred Reimagined, inspired by the colourways that made the legend of the Jordan 4.
A ROBUST SNEAKER IN PREMIUM MATERIALS
The pair therefore carries an upper in nubuck leather combined with mesh, a first at the time. Plastic parts also hold the ankle and the heel to reinforce safety and support for the foot. There is the Jumpman logo, which appeared on the Jordan 3, with the word “ Flight ” added to the design. At the peak of his art, it was in his Jordan IV that the number 23 of the Bulls finished top scorer in the NBA for the third year running. The pair would also enter the legend thanks to the famous “The Shot”, the basket over Craig Ehlo in the 1989 playoffs.
The Air Jordan 4 would also make its mark on the street and in the culture thanks to the director Spike Lee, who placed the pair in several of his films. It is among the shoes that have left their mark on cinema, like the Air Jordan 11 in the film “He Got Game” with Denzel Washington. He would also make a series of adverts in collaboration with Nike for the model, confirming its status as a legendary sneaker once and for all.
REVISITED WITH UNPRECEDENTED COLLABORATIONS
To widen its reach, this sneaker can also count on its collaborations, each stronger than the last. Among them is the collaboration with the world-famous artist Kaws. The New York street artist once again brings his whole signature, elevating this model. There are grey suede panels, the signature of Kaws's famous XX on the heel and a magnificent translucent Glow in the Dark sole to round off this gem. Finally, among the notable collaborations, the most influential rapper of the moment, Travis Scott , gives us his “Astroworld” version with an electric blue colourway. There is a translucent sole and the famous Cactus Jack logo placed on the heel, making this pair one of the biggest of the last 10 years.
More recently, Jordan is continuing its reissues of iconic models. Among them is the legendary Air Jordan 4 Retro White Cement, which first appeared in 1989. Summer versions such as the Air Jordan 4 Forget Me Not, Sail Metallic Gold or Military Blue keep on making sparks fly.
