Jordan Fearless
THE AIR JORDAN 1, AN ICONIC MODEL
First of a long line, the Air Jordan 1 has left its mark on generations through its history and its silhouette ahead of its time. In the 80s, Michael Jordan was still unknown to the wider public. It was on his entry into the NBA, and driven by his agent at the time David Falk, that Nike snatched the raw talent from its competitors. Without knowing it, the brand with the swooshhad just signed the most fruitful collaboration of recent decades.
The king of the courts then had his first sneaker model designed for basketball. And it is the famous designer Peter Moore who would create this emblematic silhouette. The first model appeared in 1984. Made up of a high leather upper, this pair came out in three colourways (white on white, white and red, and black and red). Of course, we find the famous “wings” logo placed at the top of the pair. Also conceived by Peter Moore, legend has it that he found the inspiration on seeing a child wearing a costume with pilot's wings on a flight from Portland to Chicago. What really made the model popular is not its design but its ambassador, Sir Michael Jordan. Feat after feat, Michael Jordan proudly wore the Air Jordan 1. Among them is his first Slam Dunk Contest and his record of 63 points scored against Larry Bird's Celtics. And to amplify that reach, the NBA even banned the famous Bred colourway, handing Michael Jordan a 5,000 dollar fine. This sneaker has never stopped being revisited, with exclusive collaborations such as Jordan x Off-White but also more current concepts such as the collection Air Jordan 1 Fearless.
THE JORDAN FEARLESS ONES PROGRAMME, A SYMBOL OF REACH
At the end of 2019, Air Jordan unveiled an exclusive collection named “Fearless Ones”. This collection is made up of a pack of Air Jordan 1 Mid symbolising the dominance of the silhouette and its impact on urban culture and basketball. There are new reworked colourways with previously unseen collaborations. Among them is the very successful collaboration with the Parisian shop Maison Château Rouge or the Jordan x Clot.
Every collaboration revisits iconic colourways such as the UNC or Chicago. Through this collection, Nike gives artists and designers the chance to tell a story of their own with a model steeped in heritage. For the Maison Château Rouge model, which stands for the European continent, we find the atmosphere of the French shop. Youssouf Fofana, founder of the label and creator of the pair, explains how he wanted to carry African culture across through strong colours such as brown and yellow, the colours that symbolise the brand. Maison Château Rouge started out as a non-profit project aimed at helping the African continent through the production of bissap juice made in Africa. To fund that, Youssouf had the idea of launching his own brand, which gradually became a label in its own right in the world of fashion. There are also collaborations honouring artists such as the graffiti writer Blue the Great, an artist from Los Angeles. He shares his love of primary colours and of painting with us. Through this programme, Jordan Brand wants to show the cultural richness of street culture, bringing to it a creative and ethical approach.
AIR JORDAN 1 WITH ASSERTIVE COLOURWAYS
There are 8 pairs in quite different styles. What sets this collection apart is the reinterpretation of the materials used for each model. Among them is the Air Jordan 1 Retro High Fearless OG , which takes up the two emblematic colourways UNC and Chicago with a magnificent shiny pattern. There is also the Air Jordan 1 Mid Fearless Melody Ehsani , with an original and striking design. It is made up of a combination of red, orange, pink, white and black for the left foot, and blue, green, black and white for the right. But what makes all the charm of this pair is its two golden watch faces placed at the base of the laces. Finally, we can note the very successful Jordan 1 Mid Fearless Edison Chen CLOT , which carries a grey satin nylon upper set off by the label's famous embroidered motifs across the whole upper. The Fearless collection is far more than a simple collection: it is an artistic project with a dimension of sharing built around the Air Jordan 1 High.
