Nike Air Max 90
NIKE AIR MAX 90, A RUNNING PAIR WITH AN AGGRESSIVE SILHOUETTE
NIKE, THE BENCHMARK BRAND OF THE SNEAKER
The first Nike Air Max arrived as a revolutionary feat in the world of the trainer. Designed in 1987 by the greatest creator of the brand with the swoosh, Tinker Hatfield, this sneaker quickly won the hearts of sneakerenthusiasts. It is the Air Max 1 that would open the way to a series of models that would gradually become icons for men and for women. Building in the Nike Airtechnology, the first air bubble set into a sole, this sneaker established itself as the classic of the brand fromOregon. Its design is not unlike the imposing Centre Pompidou in Paris and its coloured tubes. Legend has it that Tinker Hatfield found the inspiration on seeing the architecture of the Centre Beaubourg in Paris , where he was staying at the time. So from the birth of the Air Max 1 Varsity Red, we saw the appearance of several innovative models in every colour, such as the Air Max 97, the Air Max 95 and of course the Nike Air Max 90. More comfortable, the silhouette of the 90s won over athletes with better support. Through contests such as Paris On Air and Air Max Day , the American brand has managed to secure its position as an innovative name while anchoring its Air Max trainers in the minds of every generation.
NIKE AIR MAX 90, AN AGGRESSIVE AND FORWARD-THINKING SHAPE
Having met with resounding success, the Nike Air Max 1 had to find its successor. Tinker Hatfield therefore redoubled his efforts to offer us a new, innovative model. More comfortable than the Air Max 1, this silhouette carries a heel and an air bubble that are more imposing, to meet the needs of runners. The designer of the brand with the swoosh has always wanted to make sport accessible and to help every athlete as best he could. In that spirit, he also reworked the pair with leather reinforcement on the sides and a more aggressive, aerodynamic line, hugging the movement of the stride perfectly. Released in a first iconic Infraredcolourway, this sneaker, drawing on the Nike Air Max 1, was even given a unique colourway named “Air Pres” for the President of the United States George H. W. Bush. The famous American politician would proudly wear the shoe on his daily runs, giving it emblematic promotion. Designed for sport, this model would be pulled away from its original purpose to the benefit of the streetwear movement and urban culture.
STRONG NIKE AIR MAX 90 COLLABORATIONS: NIKE X BASEMENT, OFF-WHITE, LEVI'S
Nike stands as the benchmark in collaborations. Through its partnerships, the American firm confirms its models as classics of the world of the trainer. Over the last ten years, the Nike Air Max 90 has been revisited by designers but also by brands with a strong heritage such as Levi's. First worth noting is the most iconic collaboration on the model, with the label Off-White founded by the famous designer Virgil Abloh, then artistic director of the menswear collections at Louis Vuitton. The creator from Chicago completely rethought the model with a deconstructed swoosh sewn with a zigzag stitch and transparent technical materials. Available in 3 colourways, Black, White, and Desert, this sneaker drove trainer enthusiasts completely wild. A magnificent pack in collaboration with the English platform The Basement appeared in October 2019. Through a colourway symbolising the cities of London and Glasgow, Basement gives us a unique customisation with a pouch of several interchangeable swooshes. Lately, with its customisation programme, Nike has teamed up with Levi's , the famous denim maker, to let us personalise a Nike Air Max 90 and a Nike Air Force 1. Nike also places its silhouette in a more premium world, as with its collaboration with the label UNDEFEATED around a pack of 8 colourways. Once again the firm from Oregon captures the trends perfectly to anchor its models in the history of the sneaker.
