New Balance 2002R Protection Pack
New Balance 2002r Protection Pack
Introduced by New Balance in 2020, the New Balance 2002R was intended to succeed the 2002, unveiled in 2010. It’s this new silhouette, still in the vintage spirit of NB, that brought the brand from Boston back to the top of the scene. This was largely thanks to the New Balance Protection Pack collection.
In 2021, as NB gradually regained popularity among young people and sneakers addicts, notably thanks to a colorful collaboration with Salehe Bembury, the managers of the American brand unveiled the Protection Pack. It was at this precise moment that, through the 2002R, New Balance set the trends.
An innovative deconstructed silhouette
The Protection Pack was envisioned by Chinese-born designer Yue Wu. Initially, he had named this collection “Refined Future” before it was rebranded by the first store to release it.
Released in 2021, the New Balance 2002R Protection Pack series reprises the curves of the original model. It adds a deconstructed look created by worn suede panels with a shredded appearance for a raw, almost second-hand effect. Initially unveiled in three colorways, the 2002R Protection Pack quickly saw new variations released, each more irresistible than the last.
This technique of adding shredded suede panels was later reused in the new silhouette imagined by NB, including the New Balance 1906R.
