Nike Uptempo
The Uptempo range has been an iconic line since its creation in 1996. The Uptempo was designed by the creative team at Nike, led by the designer Wilson Smith, and came out for the first time in the emblematic white and black colourway. The Uptempo was designed to be a light and elegant basketball shoe, delivering excellent cushioning and good support to players on court. It quickly became a favourite shoe of basketball players and fans of sneakers, and its popularity only grew with the release of other colourways.
The history of the Nike Uptempo
The Nike Air More Uptempo appeared in 1996. Imagined by Wilson Smith, the Uptempo aimed to be the high-performance basketball shoe par excellence. The shoe carries a visible Air-Sole unit, a full-length Phylon midsole and a large “AIR” logo on the upper. It quickly became the favourite of NBA players and of streetball players.
The popularity of the Uptempo quickly spread and it became one of the most recognisable silhouettes of Nike. It has been presented in a variety of colourways. It has also been seen on the feet of many great stars of the NBA, including Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley and Larry Johnson.
The most on-trend Nike Uptempo
The first colourway released after the original white and black was the “Olympic” colourway, which carried a white upper with red, navy and gold accents. That version drew on the 1996 Olympic Games and quickly became one of the most popular versions of the Uptempo. The following year, Nike released the “Glow in the Dark” version, which carried a black upper with green and orange accents that glowed in the dark. That women's sneaker met with huge success and was quickly followed by the “Volt” version, which carried a white upper with volt green accents. The Volt colourway was one of the most popular of the Uptempo, and it was quickly followed by the “Infrared” colourway, which carried a white upper with bright red accents. Since then, the Uptempo has come out in a variety of other colourways, notably the “Wheat”, “Aqua”, “Red”, “Mint” and “Camo” colourways. Each colourway has become an emblematic element of the history of the Uptempo, and they have all helped make the Uptempo one of the most popular men's sneakers of all time. Although the Uptempo has changed over the years, its emblematic colourways have always been an integral part of the shoe's identity.
