Nike X Stussy
NIKE x STUSSY, THE HISTORY OF A LEGENDARY COLLABORATION
NIKE X STUSSY: THE BIRTH OF A PROJECT AT THE HEART OF SNEAKER CULTURE
The pairing of the two giants of streetwear began in 2000 with a clear guiding line: rethinking the running shoe and the most emblematic models of Nike. The first fruit of the collaboration, which was sold exclusively in the Stussy shop in London, was based on the Nike Air Huarache LE , also reissued in 2020 with the Nike Air Huarache Desert Oak.
Driven by the creative hand of its legendary founder Shawn Stussy, each creation would leave an indelible mark on the history of the sneaker. To shake up the codes, the Californian label revisited the legendary Nike Dunk High in 2001 and delivered in 2005 one of the most sought-after Nike SB Dunk Low in the history of the Dunk. Inspired by Neapolitan ice cream, the Nike SB Dunk Low Cherry is today a great classic of the collaboration between Nike and Stussy.
EMBLEMATIC MODELS BROUGHT BACK TO THE FRONT OF THE STAGE
While the spotlight was on the Huarache and the Dunk, other equally iconic models from Nike were revisited in the following years. That is notably the case of the Nike Blazer Mid, which was reissued in 2002, 2008 and 2018, showing the ability of the two names to innovate on models that were already symbolic. In 2015, the duo took advantage of the 20th anniversary of the Air Max 95 to unveil three new colourways taking up an interesting play on materials, notably with a tongue in neoprene.
With the explosion of the sneaker phenomenon over recent years, the collaborations with Stussy have become true appointments. Ever more prized by fans, models such as the Air Zoom Spiridon Cage 2 Fossil Stussy or the Air Force 1 Low Stussy Fossil have established themselves as unavoidable heats. Much favoured by the duo, plays on materials and colours are many: you very often find the famous colourways Black and Fossil, coupled with the use of mesh or canvas.
TIMELESS STREETWEAR COLLABORATIONS
If there is one thing we can state, it is that it is hard to talk about streetwear without mentioning the giant Stussy. Relaxed cut, carefully worked designs: the collaborations between Nike and the Californian label are a success at every appearance. Witness the Summer 2020 drop and its famous International Beach Crew Tee, which was one of the finest achievements of the duo. And while it is true that Stussy has worked with the biggest names in streetwear (Dover Street Market, Parra, Bape…), it is hard to find anything as effective as the drops presented by the brand with the Swoosh and the Californian label.
